Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) Association has strongly condemned the recent attack on a Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Additional Commissioner Ratnakar Sahoo and has demanded immediate and stringent action against the culprits.
Shri Sahoo, Additional Commissioner of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), was brutally assaulted and nearly abducted from his office on Monday, June 30, 2025, during a public grievance redressal meeting.
The Association held an emergency meeting on Monday to discuss the escalating incidents of violence against government officials and resolved to press for greater security measures.
According to sources, BMC Additional Commissioner Shri Sahoo was allegedly assaulted by miscreants while on duty, leading to widespread outrage among the administrative fraternity. The OAS Association has called upon the state government and the police department to launch a thorough investigation and ensure that all individuals involved in the attack are brought to justice without delay.
“Such acts of violence against public servants who are dedicatedly working for the welfare of the people are unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” stated a press release issued by the OAS Association. “We urge the authorities to take exemplary action against the criminals to send a strong message that lawlessness will not be tolerated and to deter similar incidents in the future.”
Members of the association highlighted the increasing risks faced by officers in the discharge of their duties and emphasized the need for a safer working environment. They also called for a review of existing security protocols for government officials, particularly those involved in field operations that may bring them into contact with potentially hostile elements.
The OAS Association has indicated that it will pursue the matter vigorously with the state government and relevant departments to ensure the safety and security of its members and all government employees. Further actions, including potential protests or representations, may be considered if their demands for decisive action are not met.
