Bhubaneswar: The Regional Branch of The National School of Drama will be set up in Odisha’s Capital City of Bhubaneswar. The State Government of has given its formal approval in this regard.
Initially, it will be implemented temporarily at The Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Odissi Research Centre in Bhubaneswar.
Minister for Odia Language, Literature and Culture, Suryavanshi Suraj held discussions with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and proposed to set up a regional branch of The National School of Drama in Odisha. “It is a matter of pride and pride for us that the regional branch of Rashtriya Natya Vidyalaya has been established in Odisha,” Shri Suraj said.
Principal Secretary Odia Language, Culture and Litrature, Bishnupada Sethi and Director Odia Language, Culture and Literature, Bijay Ketan Upadhyay have been chalking out modus operandi in this regard, officials say.
Minister said that the role of Odia theatre tradition is very important in promoting the history, literature, art and culture of Odisha. From the puranas till now, the story, glorious history and culture of Odia soil have reached the people through the preparation and performance of plays. The regional branch of the National School of Drama to be set up in Bhubaneswar will play a major role in the performance, promotion and expansion of Odia drama.
He further said that the Regional Branch of The National School of Drama, Bhubaneswar will provide a golden opportunity for all the students who want to build a future in the field of drama and acting. Minister Suryavanshi Suraj said that the students will be able to spread the odia language, literature, art, culture and history through the performance of plays at the international level.
Established in 1959, The National School of Drama, Delhi has been functioning as an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India since 1975. Noted actor Paresh Rawal is its Chairman and noted actor Chittaranjan Tripathy from Odisha is serving as its Director. Prominent actors from Odisha like Bijoy Mohanty, Ajit Das, Surya Mohanty have been prominent students of this school.
With the establishment of the regional branch of the National School of Drama in Odisha, the aim is to promote and promote Odia culture and especially the Odia theatre tradition.
