Aizawl: The 12th North East Zone Shooting Championship 2025 concluded in Aizawl last night with a spectacular closing ceremony attended by key dignitaries, including Chief Minister of Mizoram, Shri Lal Duhoma, and the President of the National Rifles Association of India (NRAI), Shri Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo.
The championship, which took place at the MRA Shooting Gallery in Mualpui from September 8 to 13, saw a total of 257 shooters from six states and various services competing for top honors.
Mizoram showcased a dominant performance, emerging as the overall team champion with an impressive haul of 25 gold medals. The host state was closely followed by Meghalaya, which secured the second position with 24 gold medals, highlighting a strong display of talent from both states.
In his address, Chief Minister Shri Lal Duhoma praised the hard work and dedication of all the athletes, while also extending his congratulations to the Mizoram team for their outstanding achievement.
NRAI President Shri Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, in his speech, acknowledged the growing popularity of shooting sports in the region and commended the Mizoram Rifle Association for successfully hosting the event. He also underscored the importance of such zonal championships in identifying and nurturing future shooting stars from the North East.
The closing ceremony celebrated the spirit of sportsmanship and was a fitting end to a successful week of competition. The results of the championship are expected to be a major boost for the sport in the region, encouraging more young athletes to take up shooting.
