Bhubaneswar: Putting normal life out of gear, entire Odisha is reeling under severe heat wave conditions for the past several days. At least three places have recorded a maximum temperature of above 45 degrees Celsius on Friday.
With 45.6 degrees Celsius, Sonepur became the hottest place of the State for the day while another two Western Odisha towns Jharsuguda and Bolangir sizzled with a temperature of 45.4 and 45.3 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Apart from the above three places, 28 other places recorded a maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius or above.
Sambalpur registered a day temperature of 44.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Angul (44.7), Hirakud (44.6), Bhubaneswar (44.6), Sundergarh (44.5), Talcher (44.4), Boudh (44.2), Rourkela (44) and Bargarh (44).
Similarly, Nayagarh, Titlagarh & Dhenkanal tows registered 43.5 degrees each whereas it was 43.2 degrees at Baripada, 43 at Berhampur, Bhawanipatna, Khurda &Nuapada, 42.4 at Malkangiri, 42.2 at Cuttack and 42 degrees at Deogarh.
The other places recorded a maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius or above are—Kendrapara, Phulbani, Paralakhemundi, Keonjhar, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Chandbali and Jajpur.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that there will be no respite from the prevailing heatwave as temperature is likely to remain the same during next four days. After four days, the temperature is likely to come down slightly, it said.
It is likely to be above normal by 4-7 degrees Celsius at a few places over the districts of Odisha during next 4 days; Consequently, hot and discomfort weather is likely during next 4-5 days, the IMD said.
People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside between 11 AM to 3 PM.
The Met Department has issued an ‘orange and yellow’ warning for heatwaves in different districts of Odisha.
The heatwave would prevail in the districts of Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, deogarh, Angul, Sambalpur, Boudh, Sonepur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Khurda, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj on Saturday.
