Bhubaneswar: The State Government has no proposal for the formation of any new Notified Area Councils (NACs) in any parts of the State at present, Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra told Assembly today.
While replying to a question during Question Hour, Dr.Mohapatra said the previous BJD government had announced the formation of new NACs in a State keeping elections in mind. However, the Department has not received any in-principle concrete proposal till now, he said.
“We will again write to Collectors in this regard. If any suitable proposal comes, we will definitely take necessary steps,” the Minister said.
The previous government had announced the formation of 57 new NACs in the state ahead of the elections, he said.
If any proposal for formation of new NAC will fulfil the criteria set under Orissa Municipal Act, 1950 and direction made under and Rural Urban Transition Policy, the government will take all required steps to form a new NAC, the Minister added.
