Bhubaneswar: Hari Babu Kambhampati took the oath as the 27th Governor at a special function organised here at Raj Bhavan today.
Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh, administered the oath in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik, Ministers, MLAs, MPs, BJP leaders and other dignitaries. He succeeded Raghubar Das, who resigned from the post.
Dr.Hari Babu was accorded a guard of honour immediately after his swearing-in.
“Sworn in as the Governor of Odisha, a land of timeless culture, vibrant history, and unyielding spirit. Committed to serving its incredible people and fostering progress, harmony, and growth. Together, let us strive to build a brighter future. Jai Jagannath..Bande Utkala Janani….Jai Hind,” the Governor said on a post on X sharing some pictures of the swearing-in ceremony.
The new Governor arrived here on Thursday afternoon. Soon after landing here at the airport, he along with his family members visited Jagannath Temple in Puri and invoked the Lord’s blessings for the welfare of the state and its people.
Dr.Kambhampati, a teacher-turned-politician, was the governor of Mizoram in his last assignment.
President Droupadi Murmu on December 24, 2024, appointed Mizoram Governor Dr.Kambhampati as the new Governor of Odisha.
The newly appointed Governor Dr.Kambhampati holds a B. Tech degree in Electronics and Communications engineering from Andhra University (AU). He has also completed an ME in Electrical and Control Systems and done PhD in Control Systems from Andhra University. He also worked as an Associate Professor for 24 years in Andhra University Engineering College.
Dr.Hari Babu became a state executive member of Janata Party in 1977 and worked in different capacities till the formation of BJP in 1980. He became general secretary of the Andhra Pradesh BJP in 1993 and continued till 2003.
He tasted his first electoral success in 1999 when he was elected to Andhra Pradesh Assembly from Visakhapatnam. He was also appointed a member of the task force constituted by the NDA government led by then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for interlinking of rivers during 2003-2004.
His political graph rose when he was appointed as one of the national secretaries of the BJP in 2005. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Visakhapatnam parliamentary constituency in 2014. Kambhampati also served as the Andhra Pradesh BJP President from 2014-2018.
