Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Governor-designate Haribabu Kambhampati arrived at the Bhubaneswar airport in a special plane on Thursday afternoon.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy CMs KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, ACS Home Satyabrata Sahu and DGP Y B Khurania were among those present at the airport to welcome him.
At the airport, a Guard of Honour was given to Shri Kambhampati.
“Landed in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, where I was warmly received by the Hon’ble Chief Minister and officials. A Guard of Honour was presented before proceeding to Puri for the sacred darshan of Lord Jagannath,” he posted on X.
After reaching the airport, Shri Kambhampati directly went to Puri where he visited the Shree Jagannath temple in the evening even though he was scheduled to visit the temple tomorrow morning.
“Took the divine blessings of Mahaprabhu Jagannath ji, Bhagwan Balabhadra, and Maa Subhadra at Puri before assuming the responsibility of Governor of Odisha. May their grace guide me in serving the people of this sacred land with dedication and humility,” the Governor-Designate said on X.
Chief Administrator Shree Jagannatha Temple Administration, Dr.Arabinda Kumar Padhee made all the arrangments for smooth Darshan of Trinity by the Governor Designate, said an insider.
He will spend the night at Puri Raj Bhavan and return to Bhubaneswar tomorrow morning to take oath as the new Governor of Odisha. He will be administered the oath by Orissa High Court Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh at 10.15 AM.
Shri Kambhampati, a teacher-turned-politician, was the governor of Mizoram in his last assignment.
President Droupadi Murmu on December 24, 2024, appointed Mizoram Governor Shri Kambhampati as the new Governor of Odisha. He is going to replace Raghubar Das who recently relinquished his post citing personal reasons.
The newly appointed Governor Shri Kambhampati holds a B. Tech degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Andhra University (AU).
He has also completed ME in Electrical and Control Systems and done PhD in Control Systems from Andhra University. He also worked as an associate professor for 24 years in Andhra University Engineering College.
Hari Babu became a State Executive Member of Janata Party in 1977 and worked in different capacities till the formation of BJP in 1980. He became General Secretary of the Andhra Pradesh BJP in 1993 and continued till 2003.
He tasted his first electoral success in 1999 when he was elected to Andhra Pradesh Assembly from Visakhapatnam. He was also appointed a Member of the Task Force constituted by the NDA Government led by then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for Interlinking of Rivers during 2003-2004.
His political graph rose when he was appointed as one of the National Secretaries of the BJP in 2005. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Visakhapatnam Parliamentary constituency in 2014.
Shri Kambhampati also served as the Andhra Pradesh BJP President from 2014-2018 before being appointed as Mizoram Governor.
