Naveen Speaks To Saha

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today spoke to Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha over telephone about the Bahuda Yatra incident and expressed his deep grief over the accident that led to loss of lives.

The Chief Minister extended his heartfelt condolences to the family members of the victims. He said that he and the people of Odisha stand strongly with the people of Tripura during this hour of grief. The Chief Minister also wished for early recovery of the injured persons. The CM also offered the Tripura government all support required.

Snri Patnaik has also sent Director of Odisha Mo Parivar, Dilip Kumar Routray to Tripura to extend support.

Seven people died and 16 others sustained injuries after being electrocuted during the Ulta Rath Jatra in Tripura’s Unakoti district on Wednesday. The deceased including two children died of electrocution as the chariot of Lord Jagannath came in contact with a high-tension wire during the return Rath Yatra festival on Wednesday afternoon.

Thousands of people were pulling the chariot, made of iron, when it came in contact with a 133 KV overhead cable. Parts of the Rath immediately caught fire leading to the death of seven people.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this mishap. He also prayed for speedy recovery of the injured persons.
The Prime Minister has also announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of the people killed in the mishap and Rs 50,000 for those seriously injured.

The Chief Minister has also expressed deep grief over the death of three people in Kendua village of Keonjhar district and one person in Kolab town of Koraput district during the Bauda Yatra yesterday and announced ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased.  The CM has ordered to provide free medical treatment to the injured and wished them a speedy recovery.
