MRI Broken; Manas Acts

Cuttack: Manas Choudhury, Ex-President of the District Congress Committee, Cuttack, and National Secretary of INTUC, has issued a public appeal for the immediate repair of a non-functional MRI machine at SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack.

Shri Choudhury’s request, outlined in a letter dated July 25, 2025, highlights the critical impact on thousands of ordinary citizens who rely on government hospitals for affordable medical care.

In his letter addressed to the Superintendent of SCB Medical College & Hospital, Shri Choudhury expressed “sincere gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s wife” for her decision to opt for treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He lauded her choice as a move that “reflects trust in public healthcare and has brought to light a critical issue” within the state’s medical infrastructure.

Shri Choudhury stated that it was “disheartening to learn that when she was referred for an MRI by a responsible doctor—whom we also thank—the MRI machine at SCB was found to be non-functional.”

Shri Choudhury emphasized that the issue had been “faced by a common citizen” but had never made it to the media. He believes the Chief Minister’s wife’s visit has “highlighted a systemic issue that needs urgent redressal.”

In a symbolic gesture, Shri Choudhury announced that the Congress Party and members of the Voice Against Hate campaign from the Cuttack district have collectively raised and are donating a sum of ₹5,000 towards the repair of the MRI machine. He stated that this amount, though modest, is a “collective contribution from our party leaders and workers” aimed at supporting public healthcare and standing with the people of Odisha.

Shri Choudhury concluded by urging the hospital authorities to “expedite the repair of the MRI machine and ensure that such essential diagnostic services are promptly restored for the benefit of the general public.”

Manas Choudhury, a prominent figure in Odisha politics and a member of the All Indian National Congress, continues to advocate for improved public services and healthcare infrastructure in the state.
