MoTA Hosts Bhasha Utsav

New Delhi: The Ministry of Education organised the Bhartiya Bhasha Utsav 2025 today on the birth anniversary of Mahakavi Subramania Bharati, at National Bal Bhawan, New Delhi, celebrating India’s rich linguistic diversity under the theme “Many Languages, One Emotion” as its theme. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) actively participated in the event, highlighting the depth, vibrancy and cultural significance of India’s tribal languages.

As part of the exhibition, MoTA set up an exclusive stall featuring tribal language publications from the Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) of Jharkhand, Odisha, and Gujarat. The display included dictionaries, primers, storybooks, and research documents curated to showcase the unique linguistic identity and oral traditions of tribal communities across these states.

A major highlight at the MoTA stall was the live demonstration of the Adi Vaani app, India’s first AI-powered tribal language translator, by a team from IIT Delhi.

Adi Vaani is an Artificial Intelligence–powered initiative by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, designed to ensure India’s tribal languages not only survive but thrive. It enables real-time text and speech translation between Hindi/English and tribal languages, offers interactive learning tools for early learners and students, and digitally preserves indigenous knowledge, folklore, and cultural heritage for future generations.

The initiative also collaborates with national efforts in digital literacy, healthcare, and cultural preservation to expand its reach and impact. In its first phase, Adi Vaani supports Santali and Kui (Odisha), Bhili (Madhya Pradesh), Mundari (Jharkhand), Gondi (Chhattisgarh), and Garo (Meghalaya), with future expansion guided by regional priorities and community feedback. The demonstration captivated visitors and showcased the transformative role of technology in preserving and promoting tribal languages, making them accessible to wider audiences through real-time translation.
