Bhubaneswar: The Monsoon Session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly is scheduled to take place from September 22 to October 3, based on the provisional calendar issued by the Assembly Secretariat.
The session will comprise nine working days, alongside two no-meeting days and one holiday. To ensure timely arrangements, the Assembly Secretariat has designated the scheduling process as extremely urgent, requesting the government to move the Governor for the formal summoning of the House.
Proceedings during the session are expected to address several key issues, including the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, reported inaccuracies in school textbooks, and the severe flood situation impacting multiple districts. Opposition parties plan to press the state government on flood relief operations, law and order concerns, agrarian distress, and local administration issues.
While the opposition had previously sought a special assembly session, the government declined the demand, maintaining that all critical matters can be thoroughly addressed within the regular Monsoon Session. Preparations are currently being finalized for the Seventh Session of the current assembly, where the introduction of key legislative bills and active debate between the treasury and opposition benches are anticipated.
