Monsoon Covers Odisha

Bhubaneswar, June 20: Southwest monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of Odisha on Monday and thus it covered the entire State, the IMD said.

After a brief delay, the southwest monsoon reached the State on June 16. Now, the eastwest trough at mean sea level now runs from west Uttar Pradesh to Bangladesh across East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal

Under its influence, light to moderate rain /thundershower has occurred at most places over the districts of North Odisha, at many places over the districts of South Odisha with heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Balasore, Boudh, Keonjhar, Angul, Khurda, Ganjam & Sambalpur.

Karanjia in Mayurbhanj district and Banki in Cuttack district have recorded the highest 17 cm rainfall during the past 24 hours while 8 cm rainfall recorded at Udala (Mayurbhanj), Balasore and Boudh, the Met department said.

Maximum temperatures observed appreciable rise at one or two places over Odisha, appreciable fall at one or two places over interior Odisha and no large change at elsewhere over Odisha.

They were above normal at a few places over Coastal Odisha, at one or two places over the districts of Interior Odisha, appreciably below normal at one or two places & below normal at a few places over Interior Odisha and normal elsewhere over the districts Odisha, it said.

The IMD further said heavy rainfall would occur at one or two places of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj and Dhenkanal district today.
