Modi, Trump Signal India-US Reset

New Delhi: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today reaffirmed the strength of India-US relations and expressed confidence in ongoing trade negotiations between the two nations, following a social media post by President Donald Trump.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Shri Modi responded to a statement by President Trump, describing India and the US as “close friends and natural partners.”

“I am confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the India-US partnership,” the Prime Minister wrote. “Our teams are working to conclude these discussions at the earliest. I am also looking forward to speaking with President Trump.”

The Prime Minister’s remarks signal a thaw in bilateral relations, which have been strained in recent months over a tariff dispute. The Trump administration had imposed a 50% tariff on Indian goods, including a 25% penalty for India’s continued purchase of Russian oil.

President Trump had earlier stated on his social media platform, Truth Social, that the two nations were “continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers.” He described Prime Minister Modi as a “very good friend” and expressed confidence that there would be “no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both of our Great Countries.”

Both leaders’ public exchange of positive sentiments marks a shift in tone and a renewed commitment to resolving trade differences. The two nations are now expected to accelerate discussions to finalize a trade deal that has been under negotiation for some time
