New Delhi: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has officially set a new record as the longest serving Head of an elected Government in Indian history as of 22 March, 2026.
This milestone marks a significant moment in the country’s political landscape, as he surpasses the previous tenure record of 8930 days held by former Sikkim Chief Minister Shri Pawan Kumar Chamling.
This cumulative total accounts for his continuous service starting from his appointment as the Chief Minister of Gujarat on 7 October, 2001 followed by his transition to the Prime Minister’s office on May 26 2014.
The achievement reflects a period of immense political stability and continuity at the highest levels of Indian administration. Since taking office as Prime Minister, he has led the government through three consecutive terms, a feat that distinguishes his leadership in the post independence era.
His tenure has been characterized by a focus on large scale infrastructure development, digital transformation through e-governance initiatives, and a shift toward renewable energy goals such as the green hydrogen mission.
Beyond the administrative records, the Prime Minister continues to maintain a massive digital presence, reaching over 100 million followers on Instagram and 30 million subscribers on YouTube this year.
These figures highlight a unique level of direct engagement with the public that has remained consistent throughout his nearly 25 years in high office. The record serves as a testament to his enduring influence on both the regional and national stages of Indian governance.
