Bhubaneswar: The health insurance coverage for both the present and former MLAs and their spouses has raised from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh from the current year.
State Assembly Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukh has approved the proposal to hike the insurance coverage amount Wednesday. The amount has been hiked following the approval of the Finance Department.
Health insurance facilities have been provided by the government to the MLAs and ex-MLAs since 2012-13 through National health insurance companies.
The members had been demanding to raise the health insurance coverage for a long following the rise in the cost of health care.
Official sources said in total 212 people including 124 members of the present Assembly excluding the Ministers and their 88 spouses will be benefited from the hike.
Similarly, 562 former MLAs and their spouses (317 former members and their 245 spouses) can also avail the benefit now
