MGM Hosts BPNSI Workshop

Dhenkanal: The Biju Patnaik National Steel Institute (BPNSI), a premier organization under the Ministry of Steel, today organized a crucial knowledge-sharing workshop at the integrated steel plant of MGM Minerals Ltd. in Dhenkanal, Odisha.

The professional pre-program, designed to enhance the skills of industry personnel, focused on key aspects of modern steel manufacturing.

The workshop, which was organized by MGM Minerals Plant Head and Executive Director Shri Gopabandhu Dash, saw the participation of leading experts from the steel and academic sectors.

The program featured an extensive lecture by Prof.(Dr.) Ramakrushna Sabat, a faculty member from IIT Bhubaneswar. Dr. Sabat provided in-depth insights into the Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) Process, different Steel Melting Processes, Heat Treatment, and Metal Working (Rolling). These topics are fundamental to efficient and high-quality steel production.

Following this, Professor Satyapriya Satapathy delivered a session on Energy Efficient Technologies in the DRI Process. His lecture underscored the industry’s growing need to adopt sustainable practices and reduce its environmental footprint, a key focus for modern steelmaking.

The event was held at the integrated steel plant of MGM Minerals in Dhenkanal, which includes a sponge iron plant and a WHRB (Waste Heat Recovery Boiler) power plant. The company is currently undergoing a significant expansion to increase its production capacity.

MGM Group CMD Shri Pankaj Lochan Mohanty has been a strong proponent of using the latest technology and AI to boost productivity, aligning with the workshop’s theme of knowledge and innovation.

The successful organization of this workshop highlights the collaborative effort between BPNSI and MGM Minerals to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, ensuring a skilled and up-to-date workforce for the future of the steel industry in Odisha.
