Bhubaneswar: An inter-ministerial committee meeting for the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project was convened today at the Lok Seva Bhawan Conference Hall, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo. The discussions centered on accelerating the project’s implementation and enhancing Bhubaneswar’s public transport system.

Under the direction of Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, a sub-committee has been formed to oversee the project. This panel of ministers will be chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, who also holds the portfolios of Agriculture & Farmers Empowerment and Energy.

Key modalities for implementation were thoroughly discussed during the meeting, including strategies for robust inter-departmental coordination and the establishment of a strong and efficient public transport system within Bhubaneswar. The committee also focused on a comprehensive mobility plan to tackle traffic congestion and ensure a seamless rail-road transition. Future steps for the Metro project will prioritize public interest and effective traffic decongestion.

Discussions were held with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) CEO Kalyan Patnaik, along with Vikas Kumar and Pramit Garg, to gain insights and expertise.

Other prominent attendees who presented their views included Law, Works and Excise Minister Shri Prithiviraj Harichandan and Industry and Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Shri Sampada Chandra Swain. Senior officials, including Chief Secretary Shri Manoj Ahuja, Principal Secretary of Finance Shri Saswat Mishra, Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Smt. Usha Padhee, and BMC Commissioner Shri Rajesh Pravakar Patil, also contributed to the discussions.
