Metro Phase I by DEC27′

Bhubaneswar: The first phase of Odisha’s much-awaited metro rail project will be completed by December 2027. Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi said this after a review meeting at the Metro project office on Saturday. The work on the project started after the DPR approval in November 2023. In the first phase, 26 km of work will be done, including a total of 20 stations, on the route.

13 trains will run. There will be three coaches in each train. For which a total expenditure of Rs 6,256 crore has been estimated. An expenditure of Rs 460 crore has been completed since November 2023 till date. Rs 250 crore was given by the state government in October. Rs 350 crore will be paid by the state government by March 31, 2025. Another Rs 17,50 crore has been proposed to be given to the state government in the financial year 2025-2026, the Bhubaneswar MP said after the review.

It may be recalled that on September 26, 2022, MP Aparajita Sarangi had proposed to run a metro train comprising Bhubaneswar, Puri and Cuttack for the convenience of the people in and around Bhubaneswar. On the basis of the proposal on the basis of which the previous government expedited the work.

The state government and The Delhi Metro are working together with the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation( BMC), which has been formed for this project. Bhubaneswar Metro’s first phase of work at 3 stations

There will be four stations in the middle and 10 in the north while three stations will be in Cuttack. It will have the capacity to visit 95,000 people every day. The 92 acres of land required for the project have been received and arrangements have been made to provide the remaining 15 acres soon. So far 40 acres of land has been allotted in Malipada where there is a metro office and work on metro is going on there.

The state government will bear the entire cost for the first phase of the metro project work. Shrimati Sarangi said after the review meeting.

Chief Executive Officer of Bhubaneswar Metro Project Kalyan Patnaik along with several officials of Delhi Metro and Bhubaneswar Metro projects were present in the review meeting.
