Guwahati: A crucial zonal review meeting on the functioning of Waqf Boards was held today in Guwahati, chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Dr. Chandra Shekhar Kumar.
The meeting brought together representatives from five State Waqf Boards—Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura, and West Bengal—along with officials from their respective state governments.
The agenda of the meeting focused on several key issues aimed at enhancing the management and transparency of Waqf properties. A primary point of discussion was the uploading of existing Waqf details on the newly launched UMEED Central Portal 2025.
This move is part of a larger digital push to create a centralized and transparent database of all Waqf properties across the country.
The participants also deliberated on recommendations provided by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) for strengthening the overall functioning of Waqf Boards. These recommendations are expected to introduce modern, efficient, and professional management practices.
Furthermore, the meeting included a review of action taken reports on various DO (Demi-Official) letters from the Ministry’s Scholarship Division, ensuring that financial aid and educational support for minority students are being effectively implemented. Officials from the Ministry of Minority Affairs also conducted a detailed review of the progress and challenges faced by the participating states.
Dr. Kumar is actively engaged in his role and that the Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA) has a mandate to protect minority interests.
