Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) massive victory in the Nuapada by-election is being hailed as a resounding success for the collaborative leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and State BJP President Manmohan Samal. The result provides crucial political validation for the new administration’s governance model and organizational strategy, cementing the Majhi-Samal duo’s authority in the state.
The Nuapada by-poll, the first electoral battle since the BJP ended the BJD’s 24-year rule in 2024, was widely seen as a litmus test for the new government. The nearly threefold increase in the BJP’s vote share and the massive margin of victory (over 83,000 votes) is being directly attributed to the focused campaign spearheaded by the Chief Minister and the organizational machinery marshaled by the State President.
Shri Majhi’s personal involvement, which saw him camp in the constituency and announce development projects worth over ₹1,100 crore, effectively framed the election as a mandate for the promised ‘double-engine government’ and accelerated regional development. His outreach, particularly to tribal communities, was key to consolidating the anti-incumbency vote against the former ruling party.
State President Shri Manmohan Samal’s leadership provided the organizational backbone, ensuring seamless coordination and candidate selection—notably securing the candidature of Jay Dholakia, the son of the late BJD MLA, a major political coup that helped neutralize local resistance.
Shri Samal was quoted as stating that the victory was a mandate for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and the state government’s welfare schemes, particularly the women-centric ‘Subhadra Yojana’.
The result not only boosts the morale of the BJP rank and file but also firmly establishes the joint leadership of Shri Majhi and Shri Samal, confirming the party’s strength beyond the 2024 general election wave and setting a strong precedent for future electoral contests.
