Majhi Gets Cong Ticket

New Delhi: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has officially announced the name of Shri Ghashiram Majhi as the party’s candidate for the upcoming by-election to the Nuapada Assembly constituency in Odisha.

The decision comes as the Congress prepares for a significant triangular contest in the constituency, which was necessitated by the recent demise of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Shri Rajendra Dholakia.

Shri Ghashiram Majhi is a veteran tribal leader and the current district president of the Congress party. His nomination signals the party’s intent to rely on a candidate with deep grassroots connections in the region.

He has a history of contesting from this seat, having previously been the Congress candidate in the 2019 general elections. In the 2024 Assembly elections, he contested as an independent and finished second, securing a significant vote share.

With the BJD expected to field a candidate and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) yet to announce its name, the by-poll is set to be a high-stakes battle for all three major political parties in Odisha. The election is scheduled for November 11.
