Balasore: It seems that law and order situation is deteriorating every day in Odisha. While Cabinet Minister Naba Kishore Das was killed on board day light on January 29, an young and honest IAS Officer was attacked by sand mafia in Balasore on Friday.
The IAS officer of 2020 batch,Kunal Motiram Chavan posted as Balasore Sub-Collector, was attacked when he had gone for enforcement against sand mining at a place under Sahadevkhunta police station. Driver of the Sub-Collector was seriously attacked by the mafia.
As per reports, the District Administration seized several vehicles involved in illegal sand mining and transportation last night from Mandarpur area.
Today, the Sub-Collector was on his way for inspection when he came across another vehicle transporting sand and intercepted it. After a few moments, a group of people said to be operatives of the sand mafia assembled there and allegedly attacked the Sub-Collector and his driver.
Soon after the incident, District Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde, SP Sagarika Nath, Sadar SDPO, and MLA Swarup Das reached the hospital and met the injured sub-collector. Two platoons of police force have been mobilised to the spot.
IGP Eastern Range, Himanshu Lal said toughest action will be takn against the miscreants. Balasore SP Shrimati Nath said all the persons including some women involved in the attack were identified and strong action will be taken against them.
Small teams have been formed to arrest the persons involved in the attack, said SP Balasore.
Speaking to reporters, Balasore District Magistrate Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde said the sand mafias pelted stones at the Sub-Collector’s vehicle. He has sustained minor injuries. His driver’s head was injured which required two stitches by the doctors. His condition is also stable, said the DM Shri Shinde.
