Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government has confirmed that the supply of LPG gas across the state remains normal and stable. However, reports have surfaced regarding certain unscrupulous individuals illegally hoarding gas cylinders without any valid justification.
Taking serious note of these developments, the Food, Supplies, and Consumer Welfare Department has initiated stringent measures to curb such activities.
Under the direction of Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary of Food, Supplies, and Consumer Welfare, the department has launched a massive crackdown on offenders.
Specialized teams have been formed by supply department officials in various districts to monitor the situation and take immediate action based on gathered intelligence.
These teams are submitting daily reports to departmental heads, while District Supply Officers are intensifying the verification process under the direct supervision of respective District Collectors.
As part of the ongoing enforcement drive, inspections have been carried out at 2,136 locations across all 30 districts of the state, targeting both gas agencies and other suspected premises.
During these raids, a total of 4,691 gas cylinders have been seized. Furthermore, legal action is being pursued vigorously, with 360 cases registered in the courts of various District Collectors under the Essential Commodities Act.
In addition to judicial proceedings, 31 FIRs have been lodged at different police stations to address criminal violations. The authorities have also arrested five individuals on charges of black marketing and illegal storage of cylinders.
The department has reiterated its commitment to ensuring a smooth distribution of essential fuels and warned that any attempt to disrupt the supply chain or exploit consumers will be met with severe legal consequences.
