Bhubaneswar: The wildlife wing of the Forest Department has conducted enumeration of leopards in different forest areas of the State and the report will be published on October 3.
Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia will release the report in a special event on Thursday during State Wildlife Week Celebration.
“All Odisha Leopard census captured a good number of unique individuals for estimating the population. The result will be made public by honourable Minister on 3rd October during State Wildlife Week Celebration,” Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), Wildlife, Susanta Nanda informed on X today.
“And till then enjoy some of the images of Bagh & Bagheera from the field,” he said while sharing some beautiful pictures of leopards including black leopards.
The State Government has conducted all Odisha Tiger Estimation for the first time during 2023-24 in 47 forest divisions from October 15, 2023 to February 10, 2024. The survey report shows that the State has 30 tigers and eight cubs.
Out of 30 Royal Bengal Tigers, 27 were found in the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR). In total, 13 adult tigers – seven females and six males – were found to be pseudo-melanistic in Similipal.
