Bhubaneswar: Veteran Top Cop Lalit Das has been elevated to DGP Rank and has been given In-Situ Promotion.
Presently Shri Das is serving as Chief of Human Rights Protection for the State of Odisha and will continue in the assignment with the Promotion.
Department of General Administration has brought out a notification in this regard on 7 March.
1992 Batch IPS Officer, Shri Das an experienced IPS Officer with a demonstrated history of working in the law enforcement sector.
Shri Das is empowered with Analytical Skills, framing Public Policies, Community Policing, and Disaster Management.
A Strong Military and Protective services professional with a Police Executive program focused in Police studies and Management from University of Cambridge and Public Policy from Maxwell School of Public Policy, Syracuse University, New York, USA, Shri Das has been calling shots in the Cadre.
A Top Notch Technocrat with M Tech Degree from IIT Chennai and Industrial Experience with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, placed him in high pedestal.
With Corporate experience as CMD, Odisha Police Housing Corporation and Director of Government Printing Press, leading a manpower of more than one thousand employees, Shri Das has shown his capabilities in handling critical issues.
Joined All India Police Service in the year 1992, he has worked as Superintendent of Police in Keonjhar, Gajapati, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Sambalpur and Bargarh districts.
Shri Das has worked in Bureau of Police Research & Development at New Delhi for five years.
He has International exposure as the Top Cop has served for one year at United Nations Peace-keeping Mission at Sierra Leone, Africa and also awarded the United Nation Peace Medal in the year 2004.
Worked as DIG of Police, Vigilance, Odisha, DIG North Central range at Talcher and IGP, Central Range, Cuttack.
Worked as Special Secretary in Department of Home and served as Chairman and Managing Director, Odisha Police Housing and Welfare Corporation.
Later he has worked as ADG Communications, ADG State Police Headquarters in 2020.
Shri Das has served as Director Intelligence, Odisha and Director Government Press and Publications, Cuttack.
He has been honoured with United Nations Peace Medal, 2004, President Police Medal for Meritorious service, 2008, President Police Medal for distinguished service, 2016, Governor’s Medal, 2017, DGP’s (Director General of Police) Disc 2016.
Shri Das was honored as Distinguished Alumnus Award of NIT Rourkela. 2023 and Featured by Unacademy’s “Officers on Duty”, NYCop Magazine, Ted SITB.
Interestingly Shri Das is a Professional Saxophone player and known for expressive and soulful rendition and has played in several platforms of reputed cultural organizations as well as Sangeet Natak Akademi.
A Bi-Cycle enthusiast, Shri Das has been participating in bicycle expeditions, Manali to Leh bicycle expeditions, 2014 and 2018 respectively
Joined Bhubaneswar to Bhutan bicycle expedition, 2015 and continues bicycle expeditions to different districts of Odisha
He has also participated in Delhi half marathon, 2015 and Mumbai full marathon, 2016 and 2017
Creative writing is his forte and Author of several articles, short stories and a book (anthology of short stories) and his Junk Art from scrap and trash items with Instagram postings attracts large number of followers in Social Media.
While cycling he has a hobby of collecting waste beer cans and beer bottles daily from roadside and recycle those through local scrap dealers
A true nature lover Shri Das makes Roadside plantations and watering them daily while cycling, said one of his close associate.
