Kotia’s Divine Legacy

Kotia(Koraput) : In the mist-shrouded hills of the Eastern Ghats, where the air of Kotia in Koraput district carries the ancient whispers of tribal heritage, a spiritual miracle has quietly matured over a quarter of a century.

The story of the Shree Jagannatha Temple in Kotia is not just one of stone and mortar, but a profound narrative of vision, persistence, and the deep-seated faith of two civil servants who saw a divine necessity where others saw only a remote frontier.

Twenty-five years ago, when Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee and Shrimati Usha Padhee served as young administrators in this rugged terrain, they harbored a dream that seemed almost incomprehensible to many at the time. They envisioned a Home for the Lord of the Universe, Shree Jagannatha, in the heart of this deep tribal zone. Today, that seed of devotion has blossomed into a vibrant reality that has transformed the cultural landscape of Kotia.

The transformation is best felt through the eyes of those who have lived it. Gangeya Maa, a woman in her seventies whose face is a map of the region’s history, speaks with tears of gratitude about the couple.

Having been connected to the temple’s journey since 2002, she believes it is purely the dedication of Usha Madam and Arabinda Sir that allows the local tribal communities to offer their prayers to the Chaturdha Murti every single day. For her and many others, the temple is a bridge between their ancestral traditions and the eternal grace of Puri.

The rhythm of life in Kotia now beats to the sound of temple bells and the joyous chants of Rath Jatra. The sight of a majestic chariot being pulled through the tribal hamlets, the presence of the Mausi Maa temple, and the accessibility of Prasad have brought an immense sense of spiritual fulfillment to the people.

Harish Sagar, the dedicated servitor, works with a heart full of devotion to ensure that no devotee leaves without partaking in the sacred offerings. His commitment to preparing and distributing Prasad daily serves as a testament to the living heritage the Padhee couple helped establish. A call to his Mobile: 7655095852 ensures Prasad for the devotees, said a senior citizen, who is also a devotee of Lord Jagannatha.

In order to honor the primal and tribal roots of Lord Jagannatha, the temple is named as “Adima Shreekshetra”, which has become a symbol of unity and cultural pride. It stands as a reminder that when administrative duty is blended with genuine empathy and religious respect, it can leave a legacy that outlasts careers.

The people of Kotia continue to laud the efforts of the Padhee couple, ardent devotees of Lord Jagannatha, whose rich contribution has ensured that the Lord of the Universe truly belongs to the furthest corners of the land.
