KIIT Faces Suicide Slur

Bhubaneswar: Just two and half months, another Nepali girl was allegedly committed suicide in KIIT University here today.

The deceased has been identified as Prisha Shah, a first-year student of computer science at KIIT.

The dead body of the Nepali girl was recovered by police from her hostel room inside the campus in a hanging position, police said.

However, the police yet to ascertain whether the Nepali female student committed suicide or any foul play is there.    

Twin city Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena and several senior police officers rushed to the spot for investigation. Police force has been deployed in the entire campus to maintain peace in the campus.

Speaking to media persons, the Police Commissioner said the hostel staff, during route attendance around 7 pm, when they knocked her doors, found that it was locked from inside and she was not responding.

The body was recovered and sent to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, he said.

The Nepali girls’ friends and hostel mates are also coppering in the investigation, he said.

There is a bed, a TV in the room. The police will seize her laptop, mobile and other gadgets for investigation, Singh said.

An UD case has been registered and further investigation is under way. The girl’s family member has been informed about the incident. They will reach here tomorrow, he said.

The CP said peace has been maintained inside the campus and the police are investigating the case. Forensic team is also at the spot for collection of avoidances.

Notably, on February 16, a Nepali female student was found dead in her hostel following torture by a male student. The incident rocked entire country and Nepal. The investigation of the case is still going on.
