Bhubaneswar: Senior Indian Police Service officer Dr. Shefeen Ahamed K, who was serving as the Inspector General of Police (CID, Crime Branch) in Odisha, passed away on Monday morning at his residence in Thiruvananthapuram. He had been undergoing treatment for cancer over the past two years.
Born in Kerala, Dr. Shefeen Ahamed carried the warmth and cultural richness of his home state wherever duty called him. A brilliant mind with degrees in B.Tech and MBA, he cleared the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Examination to join the Indian Police Service on September 1, 2003, as a Direct Recruit entrant of the 2003 batch under the Odisha cadre, bearing IPS identity 20031028.
Over twenty-three years of distinguished service, he served in numerous pivotal roles across Odisha, earning the love, deep respect, and admiration of the public and his peers alike. Promoted to Pay Level 14 in July 2023, he was serving as Inspector General of Police, CID, Crime Branch in Cuttack at the time of his passing. His extraordinary career earned him prominent honors, including the Police Antrik Suraksha Seva Padak in 2020 and the Kerala DGP Commendation Medal.
With a heavy heart Odisha Police bid farewell to Dr. Shefeen Ahamed K, IPS, who fought a valiant and quiet battle against cancer, a killer disease that ultimately claimed a life so full of intellect, warm fellowship, and unwavering dedication. His untimely departure leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of his family, colleagues, loved ones, and the entire policing fraternity.
