Bhubaneswar: With Top Cop Sanjeeb Panda in ‘Action Mode’ the Commissionerate of Police busted an inter-state burglary gang, arrested 3 accused and recovered more than 1 kg of gold ornament from them.
A special squad of the Twin City Police has arrested the accused and also seized over 1.5 kg silver ornaments and Rs 4 lakh cash from their possession.
Speaking to media persons, Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda said, “We have arrested three persons and a receiver on Saturday. They were involved in five sensational robbery cases in Bhubaneswar and four cases in Puri and Bhadrak.”
The gang not only commit robberies but also commit planned loot/burglaries. They go to the places with full preparation. If something goes awry and they face obstructions, they get ready to attack, Shri Panda said.
Shri Panda informed that the police will take the accused on remand for further investigation into the matter.
On the basis of Umakanta Naik reported at Chandrasekharpur regarding the burglary of gold ornaments from his friend’s residence at Kanan Vihar, a case was filed and investigation initiated.
Similarly, cases of burglary were also reported at Nandankanan PS and Infocity PS each. Taking the consecutiveness of burglary cases, Bhubaneswar UPD police took quick and swift action and successfully cracked the case.
Arrested involved three members of a professional and habitual burglary gang and the receiver of the stolen gold ornaments.
These gang members are also involved in a series of sensational house dacoity cases of Puri, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Nayagarha, Kendrapada districts, police officials said.
The arrested accused are Subhrakanta Behera (33) of Jagatsinghpur district, Biswajit Das of Jajpur, Madhusudan Mohanty of Jagatsinghpur and Sudam Charana Sahoo of Jagatsinghpur and the receiver from Paradeep.
Apart from gold ornaments of 1 kg and silver ornaments of 1300 grams, the Police have seized 3,25,000 cash, one motorcycle, some house breaking implements, and three mobile phones from them.
According to the Police, the notorious gang was badly reputed as “Kajal – Bitu – Madhu” gang in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada and Jajpur districts. They are also active in Nayagarh, Bhubaneswar, Bhadrak and Puri districts.
They are having expertise in house dacoity cases in the late of the night so also house burglary cases in day time or evening.
In a gang armed with lethal weapons they enter into the dwelling houses by breaking open the main gate of the house and taking the inmates. In case of resistance from family members, they also attack them severely, the police said.
Usually, in the evening hour or in day time, they randomly wander in residential areas and break open the locked houses by iron rods and commit burglary. They have local informers to collect data about the target house and also do recce beforehand.
They were using motorcycles for movement and mobile phones for communication. They also cover their face during crime, wear full pants and shirt especially Jeans and T- shirts, and cover their face.
To destroy evidence, they dispose of gold and silver ornaments with gold smith and share cash among them. They were consuming alcohol and ganja at the time of committing crime.
Their identification is that they always entered through the main door after scaling over the boundary wall.
The gang was involved in a series of loot cases and was earlier arrested in June 2023. Later, they were released on bail in February 2024.
This gang is presently involved and wanted in a number of sensational house dacoit cases of Puri district i.e at Astaranga in the month of January, Konark in the month of February and the recent case of Balanga doctor family dacoit case.
They are also involved in house dacoit cases of Bhandaripokhari of Bhadrak district. They are also involved in 05 burglary cases of UPD and chain snatching cases.
