IMD Alerts Heavy Rains

Bhubaneswar: A previously observed atmospheric trough stretching from north Bihar to north Odisha has now become less marked. Despite this development, light to moderate rain and thundershowers were widely reported across multiple districts, with coastal regions experiencing isolated heavy downpours.

The India Meteorological Department center in Bhubaneswar has issued a midday weather bulletin detailing recent precipitation events and an outlook for the coming week across Odisha.

Puri registered the highest rainfall at 8 centimeters, followed closely by Rajkanika and Gosani which each recorded 7 centimeters. Regarding temperatures in the southern plains, Nayagarh reached a maximum of 33.5 degrees Celsius, while Phulbani logged the lowest minimum temperature at 20 degrees Celsius.

A yellow weather warning has been put in place for the next few days. Residents in several districts, including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati, should prepare for isolated thunderstorms with lightning.

These storms are expected to be accompanied by gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. This unsettled pattern is projected to persist through the early part of the week, with a gradual shift toward drier conditions starting around the weekend, particularly in the western and northern districts.

For the capital city of Bhubaneswar and its immediate neighborhoods, the immediate 24-hour forecast indicates a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. Temperatures in the capital are expected to hover around a maximum of 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius.

Recent readings from the city noted a high relative humidity reaching 97 percent. No specific warnings have been issued for fishermen along the Odisha coast over the next five days, and minimal changes are expected in minimum temperatures statewide over the next week. Farmers are advised to stay alert to the thunderstorm and lightning warnings during their daily operations.
