Bhubaneswar: After running for only four days, the winter session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly was on Friday adjourned sine-die today.
The winter session of the House, which commenced on November 21, was scheduled to conclude on December 30, with a total of 30 working days.
Government Chief Whip Prasanta Muduli had moved the adjournment motion notice in the House as there is no business before the House to transit. Treasury Mench Members Sashi Bhusan Behera and Bhupinder Singh supported the motion.
Speaker Pramila Malik adjourned the State Legislative Assembly sine-die with after running for only four business days this evening.
In protest of the move, Opposition BJP and the Congress Legislators staged walk-out from the House.
“As there is no business before the Assembly, it was adjourned sine-die. Besides, the people of Odisha knew how the Assembly proceedings were stalled by the Opposition during the last two days,” the Government Chief Whip said.
However, Opposition BJP and the Congress criticized the Government for the sine die of Assembly before schedule time.
BJP Chief Whip Mohan Majhi said, “It was unfortunate that the BJD Government ran the Assembly only four days of the winter session, which never happened in the history of Odisha. In fear of the Opposition, the Government has adjourned the House sine-die.”
Congress Chief Whip Taraprasad Bahinipati slammed the Government for closing down the session mid-way and said the House runs for only four days against a total of 40 days, which is the most unfortunate.
