Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s coastal belt is preparing for a fresh spell of severe heat and oppressive humidity, with the Regional Meteorological Centre issuing a yellow warning for the next three days. Residents in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts are advised to take extreme precautions as the mercury is set to soar.
The Met Centre’s forecast indicates that the combination of high temperatures and significant atmospheric moisture will create “sultry” conditions, making outdoor activities particularly challenging. Day temperatures across these districts are expected to rise by an additional 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next two days, further intensifying the heatwave.
This persistent heat is a growing environmental concern for the state. Such prolonged periods of high temperatures can lead to increased stress on natural ecosystems, including water bodies and vegetation. The elevated humidity further exacerbates the physiological impact on humans and animals, raising the risk of heat-related illnesses.
Authorities are urging the public to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, and check on vulnerable individuals, including the elderly and children. The continuous rise in temperatures highlights the broader climatic shifts being observed, prompting a renewed focus on heat action plans and long-term environmental sustainability in the region.
