Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government is set to bolster its healthcare system with a massive recruitment drive, aiming to fill thousands of vacant posts for doctors and paramedical staff.
The announcement came from Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi during a review meeting of the State Health and Family Welfare Department held at Lok Seva Bhawan.
PS to CM Manoj Kumar Sahoo, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Principal Secretary Finance Sanjeeb Kumar Mishra and other senior officials were present. Minister Health & Family Welfare, Dr.Mukesh Mahaling outlined the discussion.
In the meeting, Chief Minister Shri Majhi emphasized the need to strengthen healthcare services across the state. A key focus of the discussion was the swift filling of existing vacancies. It was revealed that 1,840 doctors and medical officers and over 5,000 paramedical staff will be appointed in the near future.
The Chief Minister specifically directed the department to implement a rationalization process for the deployment of doctors, ensuring that a maximum number of medical officers are posted in tribal and other deprived areas where the need is most acute.
The meeting also addressed the shortage of teaching staff in the state’s medical colleges. Majhi stressed the urgency of filling vacant posts for Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, and Professors.
Other directives included increasing the number of postgraduate (PG) seats, improving the infrastructure of medical colleges, and appointing necessary technical staff.
Discussions also centered on improving healthcare access and services for the public. Plans were made to establish Integrated Trauma Care Centres in all accident-prone areas. To attract and retain doctors in remote locations, the Chief Minister proposed increasing incentive amounts. The meeting also addressed various issues and problems faced by Ayush doctors.
Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Saswat Mishra, Health Secretary Ashwatthi S, National Health Mission Director Dr. Brunda D, and Managing Director of Odisha State Medical Corporation Limited Dr. Poma Tudu were among the key officials present at the meeting.
