Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, on Sunday, August 24, urged the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) to take a leading role in fostering agricultural entrepreneurship. Speaking as the Chief Guest at the university’s 64th Foundation Day celebrations, the Governor emphasized that agriculture, the backbone of India’s economy and culture, holds a growing scope in processing, value addition, marketing, and exports.
The Governor called on OUAT to prepare detailed project profiles for various agricultural enterprises, including cost estimates, income projections, and information on subsidy schemes. He stated that these profiles would help students and farmers understand the financial potential of agri-businesses, encouraging them to pursue such ventures. Dr. Kambhampati shared his observations from visits to Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), praising the training provided to farmers but expressing concern that only a few transition to industrial activities. He believes that providing comprehensive project profiles and guidance would significantly increase participation in agri-industry.
Dr. Kambhampati also highlighted the need for OUAT to address challenges like climate change and market fluctuations by focusing on precision agriculture, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and sustainable resource management. He commended OUAT for its recognition as a leading nodal center for agricultural startups by the MSME department and for mentoring 24 startups, noting that these initiatives align with the vision of a “self-reliant India.”
Other dignitaries at the event included Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, who spoke on the importance of organic farming and India’s transformation into a food-exporting nation. Minister for Fisheries and Veterinary Services and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Gokulanand Mallick, outlined government schemes for the welfare of farmers and the promotion of agriculture. Also in attendance were Ekamra-Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh and OUAT Vice-Chancellor Prof. Prabhat Kumar Roul.
The event began with a welcome address by Dean of Extension Education Dr. Prasannajit Mishra and concluded with a vote of thanks by Registrar Pratibha Dora.
