Gujarat Meeting Boosts Minority Welfare

Gandhinagar: Dr. Chandra Shekhar Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs, is on an extensive drive across the nation to ensure that the benefits of various government schemes reach minority communities. As part of this crucial outreach, Dr. Kumar chaired a high-level review meeting with Gujarat state government officials here on July 18, 2025.

The meeting focused on the progress of key initiatives aimed at the welfare and development of minorities, including the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), the UMEED Central Portal for Waqf Properties, and the implementation of the Jiyo Parsi scheme.

Dr. Kumar emphasized the need for robust implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), a scheme designed to address development deficits in minority concentration areas by funding infrastructure projects. Discussions revolved around accelerating project completion and ensuring the timely disbursement of funds to maximize its impact on the ground.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to the UMEED Central Portal, which is revolutionizing the management of Waqf properties. With the recent Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, mandating digital registration and geotagging of all Waqf properties, Dr. Kumar reviewed Gujarat’s progress in uploading data onto the portal. He stressed the importance of accurate and timely data entry to enhance transparency, prevent encroachments, and ensure the optimal utilization of these assets for community welfare. The UMEED portal, launched on June 6, 2025, is a critical step towards modernizing Waqf administration.

Furthermore, the implementation of the Jiyo Parsi scheme, a unique initiative to reverse the declining population of the Parsi community, was closely scrutinized. Dr. Kumar assessed the effectiveness of medical assistance, child and elderly care support, and advocacy programs under the scheme in Gujarat. He underscored the Ministry’s commitment to preserving and supporting the Parsi community.

Throughout the meeting, Dr. Kumar offered key suggestions and actionable measures to broaden the beneficiary outreach of all these schemes. His proactive approach reflects the Ministry’s determination to ensure that every eligible individual from minority communities across India receives the intended benefits, thereby contributing to inclusive growth and national development. This visit to Gujarat is part of a series of nationwide reviews being conducted by the Secretary Dr.Kumar to ensure seamless and effective delivery of welfare programs.
