Green Metal Meet On 6 FEB

Bhubaneswar: The National Green Metal Conference 2024 (NGMC-2024) is set to commence on 6 February here, as announced in a Media Meet held here on 4 February.

Dr.K Murugesan, Member Secretary of Odisha State Pollution Control Board and Director of Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Chairman of organising Committee of this conference announced it today.

Dr.Murugesan said this crucial conference, themed “Balancing the Metal Eco Systems: Towards Green Sustainability,” is a collaborative effort between the State Pollution Control Board, Odisha, and the Biju Patnaik National Steel Institute (BPNSI).

It will take place in Bhubaneswar, on 6-7 February, 2024, he said.

The Member Secretary said NGMC-2024 aims to address the significant challenges posed by unsustainable development and climate change, focusing on the industrial and metal-producing sectors.

This event is a critical platform for industry stakeholders, experts, educators, institutions, and policymakers to deliberate on the future of a more sustainable metal sector.

With India being the second-largest global producer of steel and aluminum, and the steel industry alone accounting for approximately 10% of the country’s carbon emissions, this conference is timely and essential, he added.

Pritam S Purkayastha, Director of Biju Patnaik National Steel Institute said  The two-day conference will feature an exhibition that showcases the latest trends in environmental pollution control, monitoring, and the circular economy.

Key focus areas will include technology advancement, alternative energy, sustainable mining, circular economy, safety management, green financing, and capacity augmentation through skill development.

These discussions are aimed at facilitating a smooth transition towards a net-zero economy, the Director BPNSI said.

NGMC-2024 will present a unique opportunity for industry and mining organizations to engage with the latest strategies in climate change, pollution abatement technologies, environmental monitoring, and data management solutions.

This conference is not just a hub for industry advancement but also an avenue for academic growth, knowledge exchange, and overall progress in the metal-producing sector towards sustainable practices.
