Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s power sector is undergoing a significant transformation with the development of Green Energy Corridors, a strategic initiative aimed at ensuring the seamless transmission of renewable energy across the state.
By integrating solar and wind power into the state grid, these corridors are set to deliver clean, reliable, and sustainable electricity to homes and industries.
This green energy transition is being spearheaded by Shri Vishal Dev, the Principal Secretary of Energy and Electronics & Information Technology.
Under his leadership, the state has been actively working to implement its “Renewable Energy Policy 2022,” with ambitious targets to meet 33% of its power needs from renewable sources by 2036 and a remarkable 50% by 2047.
The Green Energy Corridors are a key part of this vision. They are designed to address the challenges of evacuating power from remote renewable energy generation sites and integrating it efficiently into the existing grid infrastructure.
This involves the development of new high-voltage transmission lines and substations, which will allow for the large-scale transfer of clean energy. The state has sought central financial assistance for these projects, highlighting their importance in meeting its clean energy goals.
In addition to the corridors, Odisha is focusing on a diverse portfolio of renewable energy projects, including pumped storage hydropower, floating solar plants, and a significant push for green hydrogen and battery energy storage systems.
Shri Vishal Dev has emphasized a collaborative approach, bringing together various government departments to ensure a holistic strategy for energy transformation. The state’s efforts are positioning it as a key player in India’s clean energy mission, with the potential to become an energy model for the nation.
