Bhubaneswar: In a major milestone for the cultural landscape of Odisha, world-class international and national architectural firms are participating in the bidding process for the master planning and design of the landmark Shree Jagannatha Interpretation Centre in Puri. The presentation lineup highlights a convergence of globally renowned names alongside premier domestic design consultancies, all competing to bring this visionary heritage project to life.
This unprecedented participation of top-tier global architects has been widely appreciated, with experts and observers crediting the momentum to the proactive leadership of Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary, Department of Works and Chairman of the Odisha Bridge and Construction Corporation. Under his guidance, the state has actively structured the initiative to meet international museum standards, drawing architectural excellence from across the globe to the heritage city of Puri.
The scheduled technical presentations reflected a high-profile lineup of bidders: Tractebel Engineering Private Limited as the Lead Member, partnering with the world-renowned Pei Cobb Freed and Partners Architects LLP as the Joint Venture Partner, opened their presentations.
Adjaye Associates acted as the Lead Member alongside their Joint Venture Partner, Aadharshila Designs Private Limited, presented their layout.

The overwhelming interest from these global firms underscores the profound spiritual and philosophical depth of Shree Jagannatha culture. The Daru Brahma philosophy, the intricate traditions of the Nabakalebara, the architectural majesty of the 12th-century shrine, and the universal appeal of the Rath Jatra have provided an incredibly rich canvas for these master designers.
Each participating consortium brings a unique vision to showcase these centuries-old rituals, sacred narratives, and vibrant local art forms like Pattachitra. By integrating cutting-edge technology such as immersive soundscapes, digital archives, and augmented reality with classical architectural design, these world-class firms are competing to create a space that will preserve and promote the eternal legacy of Lord Jagannatha for a global audience.
