Gang Rape; Six Held

Cuttack: Acting swiftly in a ‘gang rape’ of college student, the Twin City Police have arrested six persons, including a minor, within three days of registration of the case.

According to police, a 19-year-old college student was gang raped for several days, videographed the act and black mailed her.

The woman lodged a complaint with the Badambadi Police Station in Cuttack on November 4, alleging that the accused persons, including her boyfriend, gang-raped her, Cuttack DCP Jagmohan Meena told media persons here today.

The college student alleged that she had gone to a café within Purighat Police Station limits in the city during the Dussehra festival to celebrate her birthday with her boyfriend. The victim’s boyfriend, allegedly with help of the café owner, captured some of their obscene acts on his phone, he said.

They allegedly blackmailed the woman by showing her intimate videos and raped her in two different times, the police officer said.

Based on the complaint, the boyfriend of the woman, the café owner, a boy and three others were arrested on charges of gang rape, the police said.

“Soon after registration of the case, we have formed a special team including IICs of Badambadi and Purighat police station. As per the FIR, six accused were there and we arrested all of them on November 5 and 6,” Shri Meena said.

“Showing the obscene video, two persons each time, raped the victim, on different dates. Two others were threatening and blackmailing the victim,” the DCP informed.

He appealed to the women who are in such a situation to directly move to the women and children desk of the local police station immediately.

The police also recovered the videos from their mobile phones and their handsets have been sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Bhubaneswar for examination, he added.

The police have also sealed the café, where the ‘obscene’ video was recorded. The police have also taken steps to stop further spread of the video of the victim, Meena said.
