Bhubaneswar: Extreme heatwave conditions continued to put normal life out of gear in the State with the mercury touching 44.6 degrees Celsius in Bhubaneswar today.
Due to prevailing mainly northwesterly/westerly dry air and high solar insolation, the temperature would rise further slightly by 2 degrees C at many places over the districts of Odisha during next 24hrss. Consequently, the maximum temperature is likely to be above normal by 4 to 6 degrees C over some districts of Odisha during the next 4 to 5 days, the IMD said.
The State capital today recorded the highest temperature during this summer. It was followed by Jharsuguda which recorded 43.6 degrees Celsius, Rourkela at 42.5, Chandbali 42.4 and Sambalpur 42.1 degrees Celsius by 2.30 PM today.
Meanwhile, the IMD’s Bhubaneswar Centre has issued a red warning (be alert) for different areas for Sunday and said heatwave to severe heatwave conditions may prevail Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Khurda, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Bolangir, and Nuapada districts.
Similarly, heatwave conditions will prevail in Deogarh, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Malkangiri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, and Bargarh districts, where the orange alert (be prepared) was sounded.
The weather office also issued a heatwave warning for the next four days indicating no respite from the hot and humid weather conditions next week.
For April 29. red warning has been issued for the districts of Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Khurda, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Bolangir, and Nuapada.
Similarly, orange waning given for Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Bargarh, and Deogarh districts for Monday.
The IMD has advised people not to come out of their houses between 11 AM to 3 PM as hot and intense humid conditions prevail in most parts of the State.
