Cuttack: Commissioner of Excise, Odisha, Ashish Kumar Singh is in a happy mode as the Directorate of Excise has registered a growth of 72 per cent on detection and seizure of NDPS substances till July of the current financial year in comparison to the same period of FY 2021-22.
The Team Excise led by Top Cop Mr.Singh have seized NDPS materials including brown sugar worth Rs 64.13 crores till July of 2021-23, while such materials of Rs 17.82 crores were seized during the same period of the last fiscal.
This was known from the Monthly Excise Review meeting held under the chairmanship of Commissioner of Excise Mr.Singh through virtual mode on Wednesday, wherein Joint Commissioner of Excise, Cuttack/ Headquarter and Superintendents of Excise, EDCs of Enforcement Cell were attended from different offices.
The number of NDPS cases has increased from 174 in July’21 to 583 in July’22, registering a growth of 235 per cent.
Similarly, the number of arrests has increased by 208 per cent. While 216 were arrested on NDPS cases till July of 2021-22, it has been increased to 666 in 2022-23.
Similarly, the detection of Excise cases and arrest has also increased by 72 per cent and 70 per cent during the period.
Till the month of July in the financial Year 2022-23 record number of 18145 cases have been detected against 10536 that of last year with an increase of 72 per cent in detection of cases
During April to July of 2022, the seizure of ID liquor and country liquor has increased by more than 115 per cent and 45 per cent, while seizure of bhang increased by 350 per cent.
The Excise officials seized 12,710 kg of Ganja till July of 202-23 against the seizure of 7,919 kg Ganja till July of 2021-22. During the four months, the Excise officials have seized 765 vehicles used in illegal transportation of the drugs.
This year the digitization of data of Excise cases of the last ten years is going on with the assistance of OCAC throughout the state to keep record of each and every accused person and to have coordination with the State Police.
Further the training of Excise Officials is going on each month through resource persons. The training of Excise Constables and ASI has been planned to reinvigorate the department and to enhance the conviction rate.
Vehicles are being provided to each range office and the construction of office buildings of different offices are going on war footing, said Excise Department officials.
The Commissioner of Excise appreciated the performance and achievement of Excise officers up to July of 2022-23.
Mr.Singh directed all Superintendents of Excise & EI EB Units to strengthen and enhance the enforcement measures in this year 2022-23 and to conduct frequent raids against the illegal manufacturing, distributing and sale of ID Liquor, Duplicate IMFL , Non Duty Paid IMFL and NDPS items in the state.
