Bhubaneswar : The Excise Department has intensified the enforcement activities against liquor mafia, illegal brown sugar traders and Ganja mafia keeping the ensuing election in view. Seizure of liquor, Ganja and Heroinhas substantially increased till 23.05.2024.
During the month of May-2024 till 23.05.2024, so far as liquor cases concerned, 4,976 cases have been detected with seizure of 2,49,510litres of ID Liquor, 87litres of Duplicate Foreign Liquor, 53litres of Non-Duty Paid Foreign Liquor, 2,613litres of IMFL, 15,116 BL of Beer, 5,305litres of Out Still Liquor, 410 KGs of Bhang, 1,852litres of Country Liquor and84,163 KGs of Mahua Flower withseizure of 434numbers of vehicles. In this connection 4,141 liquor mafias have been arrested and sent to judicial custody.
The persistent and intense drive against illegal Ganja, Heroin and Cough Syrup mafia have also yielded very good results. In this connection 114 numbers of cases have been detected and130numbersof mafia have been arrested.Huge seizure of 2,951 KGs of Ganja, 66litres of Cough Syrup and 2,558 Grams of Heroin has been made.The total value of seized liquor, Ganja and Heroin etcamounts to Rs.25.00 Crores.
Some of the important detections are seizure of 2,352litres of Beer and one Truck by Special Squad, Sambalpur,2,800 litres of illicit liquor,one four-wheelerby Cuttack staff and1,450 litres of illicit liquor &1,050 litres of illicit liquor along with one four-wheeler and 2 two-wheelers by Balasore staff and 1,075 KGs of Ganjaby Boudh staff.A record quantity of 15,84,450litres of Mohua/ Gur Wash have been destroyed by different districts, which has been instrumental in curbing illicit distillation of liquor to a great extent.
