Bhubaneswar: Former Chief Secretary of Odisha Pratip Kumar Mohanty passed away here. He was 78.
Shri Mohanty, known as an honest and sincere Mandarin had served the State and Union Government in various capacities.
He was Chief Secretary from 1 November, 2002 and continued till 31 August 2004.
Later he served as Chairman of Odisha Public Service Commission from 11 December 2004 to 31 August 2006.
Born on 1 September 1944, Shri Mohanty got into IAS in 1967 and started his career in 1969 as Sub Divisional Magistrate.
He never looked back and served as District Magistrate of Kalahandi and Koraput serving the tribal population in a big way.
Shri Mohanty was a popular Administrator with an eye for development in the backward areas of the State.
Shri Mohanty served in Energy, Industry, Urban Development Commerce and Transport, Finance, Excise, Fisheries, Agriculture, Cooperation, Culture, Tourism, Information and Public Relations, Higher Education, Tribal Welfare, Social Development, Planning and Program Implementation, Personnel and General Administration in various capacities.
Shri Mohanty has served in Planning Commission and helped the state in a big way, before taking over as Chief Secretary of the State.
He was pro-people and a quietly performing mandarin and was loved by all in the state and centre, said a former Chief Secretary.
Shri Mohanty breathed his last in his residence at Shaeed Nagar here.
He is survived by his wife Shrimati Padmalaya Mohanty and son Prateek Mohanty, and Daughter.
His son Prateek Mohanty is an IPS Officer of 2000 Batch and he is serving as IGP in Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
His last rites will be conducted at Satya Nagar Mortuary today.
