ECI Moves India SIR

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI)’s two-day Conference of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) commenced today at the India International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Management (IIIDEM) in New Delhi, focusing on the preparedness for the nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise of electoral rolls.

The conference was presided over by Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar, alongside Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi. The Commission undertook a comprehensive assessment of the readiness of the CEO offices across all States and Union Territories for the crucial SIR process.

This meeting is a follow-up to a previous SIR preparedness conference held on September 10, 2025, where all States/UTs had presented detailed information regarding their current number of electors, the qualifying date of their last SIR, and the status of their Electoral Roll as per that revision.

The Commission assessed the progress made by CEOs on previously issued directions to map the current electors with the records from the last Special Intensive Revision in their respective State/UT.

The status of the appointment and training of essential field functionaries, including District Election Officers (DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and Booth Level Agents (BLAs), was also reviewed.

The conference aims to finalize the groundwork for launching the massive Special Intensive Revision exercise across the country.
