Cuttack: A special drive was organized from 10-29 February,2024 in view of forth coming General Election, to crackdown on the liquor mafia and drugs mafia in the State. During the special drive, 3755 cases were booked and 2933 persons were arrested.
During this drive, 1,44,862 litres of illicit distilled liquor, 1900 kg of Ganja, 787 gm of Heroin, 224 vehicles, 156 litres of cough syrup, 76 litres of duplicate foreign liquor, 536 litres of foreign liquor, 857 litres of Beer, 1660 kg of Mohua flower, 1178 Kgs of Bhang, 1700 gms of Opium, 79 litres of tincture ginger, 1239 litres of country liquor have been seized.
116 cases have been detected under NDPS act in which 126 persons have been arrested.The market value of all the seized items comes to Rs. 24.5 Crores.
During this special drive, one Bar & Restaurant ( ABC Bar & Restaurant, Jankia of Khordha) and one licensed Country liquor shop in Balasore have been sealed for illegal activities.
The licensee of the country liquor shop has also been arrested. Steps have been initiated for confiscation of the vehicles seized in liquor cases. The Excise Department will continue its drive against Liquor mafia to ensure peaceful General Election-2024.
