Bhubaneswar: Meteorological data released by the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar for July 24, 2026, reveals a stark contrast in weather patterns across Odisha over the past 24 hours. While several northern districts recorded substantial rainfall, the overall district average for the state remained significantly below normal levels.
Odisha recorded an actual average rainfall of 4.8 mm against the daily normal of 7.9 mm, marking a rainfall departure of minus 39 percent. Widespread dry conditions prevailed across southern and coastal belts, with several districts experiencing large deficiencies ranging up to a total absence of recorded precipitation.
In contrast, isolated heavy to very heavy precipitation lashed northern parts of the state. Kendujhar district recorded the highest rainfall in the state, with Hatadihi station logging a massive 120.2 mm, making it the lone station to register very heavy rainfall. In Baleshwar district, Bahanga received 85.0 mm of rainfall, qualifying as heavy rainfall. Other notable rainfall totals were reported in Bhogorai at 58.0 mm, Oupada at 52.0 mm, Ghasipura at 51.3 mm, Anandpur at 51.0 mm, and Baleshwar town at 50.9 mm. Additional localized precipitation occurred across Nilgiri, Khaira, Soro, Bonth, Muruda, and Shamakhunta.
Temperature readings across the plains showed mild variations. Nayagarh and Sonpur recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 34.0 degrees Celsius, while Boudh logged the lowest minimum temperature at 18.8 degrees Celsius.
In the capital region, weather conditions remained dry. Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 32.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26.5 degrees Celsius, with zero rainfall recorded. Twin city Kataka reported a maximum temperature of 32.0 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24.4 degrees Celsius, also with no recorded rain over the 24-hour period.
