DMF Builds Rehab Network

Bhubaneswar: With a significant investment from the District Mineral Foundation (DMF), Odisha has established a comprehensive rural rehabilitation network, providing advanced care to people in mining-affected areas.

Ministry of Mines has posted in its’ X Platform. This initiative, which began with two state-of-the-art rehabilitation centers in Bhubaneswar and Sundargarh, has been instrumental in improving the quality of life for a large number of people, particularly those with disabilities.

The rehabilitation centers offer advanced medical services, including robotic therapy and computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) for prosthetics. This allows for the creation of customized artificial limbs.

The services are not limited to physical rehabilitation but also include integrated therapy like speech, behavioral, and occupational therapy. These services are provided to a wide range of patients, including those with cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, and limb amputations.

The program has been successful in reaching people from remote and tribal areas, ensuring that the benefits of mining revenue are shared with the most vulnerable communities. The focus on high-priority sectors like health, education, and welfare for women, children, and the disabled is a core part of the DMF’s mandate.

This project is a prime example of how DMF funds are being used to create long-term, sustainable solutions to mitigate the negative health and socio-economic impacts of mining operations, helping individuals regain their independence and dignity.
