Bhubaneswar: The 21st edition of the Odisha Manaska Circle, a monthly public dialogue initiative by All Things Odisha, was held yesterday in Bhubaneswar, bringing together citizens from diverse backgrounds to discuss the increasingly relevant theme, “Who Are We Online? Identity, Trust and Life in the Digital World.”
The interactive session featured Chandra Sekhar Biswal, a young technopreneur and cybersecurity expert, as the resource person. Speaking on the growing influence of the digital ecosystem on everyday life, Biswal highlighted the evolving nature of online identity, the importance of digital trust, and the challenges posed by cyber threats, privacy breaches, misinformation, and online fraud. He also shared practical insights into safe digital practices and the need for greater cyber awareness among citizens.
The discussion attracted a good number of participants from different walks of life, who engaged in a lively exchange of ideas on the opportunities and risks associated with the internet and digital technologies. The intimate format of the Odisha Manaska Circle encouraged participants to share personal experiences, ask questions, and collectively reflect on the social and ethical dimensions of life in an increasingly connected world. The participants also highlighted about how the online world has democratised the communication processes while amplifying talent and creativity at the grassroots that otherwise would have left hiden.
A significant contribution to the discussion came from fellows of the Safe Odisha for Her, who shared their experiences of working at the intersection of gender, technology, and social inclusion. Their reflections highlighted the importance of promoting safer and more inclusive digital spaces while addressing emerging social challenges in the online world.
The session was facilitated by Sandip Bal and Sonali Priyadarsini, founders of All Things Odisha, who emphasized the need for informed public dialogue on contemporary issues that shape society. They noted that as digital technologies become integral to governance, education, commerce, and everyday communication, conversations around identity, trust, and responsible digital citizenship are more important than ever.
