Depression Threatens Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A fresh low pressure area is highly likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal, just off the Odisha coast, on July 2, signaling a significant intensification of monsoon activity across the state.

The weather system is anticipated to gradually strengthen into a depression by July 3 and may further escalate into a deep depression by July 4, according to a special weather bulletin issued by the Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) of SOA Deemed to be University.

Under the direct influence of this developing system, widespread moderate to heavy rainfall is projected to drench Odisha over a five-day span from July 1 to 5.

The precipitation pattern is expected to shift geographically as the system intensifies. Coastal regions of Odisha are on alert for heavy to very heavy downpours on July 2 and 3.

As the system moves, the core intensity of the storm is predicted to transition inland, bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall to the interior parts of the state between July 3 and 5.

Prior to the formation of this intense system, the state will not remain entirely dry. The CEC noted that light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue across various parts of Odisha from June 27 through July 1, serving as a precursor to the heavy weather system tracking toward the coast.
