Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Puri-Paradeep Economic Region (BCPPER) is taking a step closer to becoming a reality with a crucial stakeholders’ consultation meeting held today at the convention center.
Chaired by Shrimati Anu Garg, Development Commissioner, the meeting gathered key government officials and experts to strategize the development of this expansive economic zone.
he BCPPER is a large-scale project aimed at transforming the region into a major economic hub. The meeting focused on establishing a roadmap and implementation strategy for the project.
Smt. Anna Roy, Principal Economic Advisor of NITI Aayog detailed out the BCPPER agenda. Smt. Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development, Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary, Works, Smt. Guha Tapas Poonam Kumar, Secretary, Handloom & Textile, Smt. Chitra Arumugam, Principal Secretary, Science & Technology and Shri NBS Rajput, Principal Secretary, Public Enterprises participated in the discussions.
The collaborative effort underscores the multi-sectoral approach required to develop this ambitious project, which aims to boost urban development, infrastructure, and industrial growth in the state.
The BCPPER is envisioned to be a catalyst for Odisha’s economic growth, with a long-term goal of becoming a US$ 500 billion hub by 2047. The plan includes the development of a new satellite city near Bhubaneswar and the establishment of a metro rail system to address the region’s growing population and urban needs.
The project is also expected to create millions of new jobs, particularly in non-farm sectors like tourism, IT, and healthcare. The government is also looking at the possibility of including additional areas in the project for future expansion.
The Union Government has assured full support for the project.Following the consultation, the government is expected to establish a Regional Economic Development Board, chaired by the Chief Minister, to oversee the project’s strategic planning and implementation.
The board will leverage public-private partnerships and focus on data management and coordination to ensure the project’s success. The BCPPER initiative is part of the state’s broader vision to achieve a higher rate of urbanization and make Odisha a front-runner in India’s development.
